Hatkonsten kallas ibland för samhällskritisk surrealism och började som en blandning mellan performance och relationell estetik och ses som en reaktion på den ökade globaliseringen och den nya finansiella oron på konstmarknaden.
As a banner, and to thereby as non-art, it is at once revealing (pointing something out) and concealing (excluding something). The banner it self serves as a statement of authenticity: of the artist´s realness.
The hare is, as Charney pointed out in his article, the star of the Vienna Art World. You will find huge plastic hare sculptures in bright colours at several places around the museum and in the museum shop you can find dozens of products with the famous painting. Probably I wasn’t the only one coming to see Dürers painting, but I was probably the only one coming specifically to see a reproduction.
